To Sell Out or To Be Sold Out
I have been having these conflicting thoughts about music and I just need to write them down and have others put there input on the subject. Music is a huge roll in mylife and my wife and I talk about bands "Selling Out" meaning to do music for money and not just for the passion of it, has got me thinking about other jobs that people don't call "Sell Outs" Example: Bill Gates, worth about 50 some odd billion bucks and counting, you don't hear people say "Oh that sell out, who does he think he is!" No and I'll tell you why, its because he has all the money in the world (almost) and he has a horrific hair cut, just like Mr. Trump. I think that just because they are in a different filed dose not give the right to dodge the title of "Sell Out." The way I wrote the title is the second part of my blog. To "Sell Out" is to yes, have money, but also to have your music, book, art or product to be sold, oh and you don't hear people say "Oh that Da Vinci was such a sell out!" No you hear people say "That Da Vinci had some talent!" Sorry side tracked. To "Sell Out" is to have all the good things in life but to "share" your talents with the world. For bands it's to "Sell Out" a venue or a painter to "Sell Out" of a print. Another thing you don't hear people talk about violinist or cellist that play and get paid to play in the local symphony's "Sell Outs." I think that people use that word because there band or brand or what have you has become popular. The funny thing about that is, that's what they have been trying to do all along. Have people enjoy there craft whatever it may be.
