At JFK, the largest airport in the country and has over 1,000 departures and arrivals in one day had some unexpected changes. One of the radio controllers brought his son to work and then put him to work. At 8 p.m. on February 16th the pilots heard the sound of a boy's voice coming thru the headsets of the commercial airplane pilots directing them when they can take off and where they land. The recordings of the interactions of the boy and the pilots are more disturbing since the pilots don't seem to mind that they are getting orders from a small child or asking where the experienced radio controller is. The boy's father who is a certified at using the equipment was standing right next to the boy the entire time but the FAA is not happy with him at all and dismissed the man until further notice.
Sometimes I think the FAA is watching for terrorist way to hard and not making sure the people that they hire and give clearance too are not complete morons..
